Sammie graduated from Avondale College in 2016, with outstanding credits to her name. Having got 1st in Drama in all 5 years of study there, while also obtaining excellence endorsement in level 3 Drama (as well as the whole year.) She was awarded multiple awards at the 2016 senior prize giving ranging from the Phil Raffills Memorial Scholarship for Citizenship and Overall Excellence, along with the Drama Cup and the Alison Nelson Significant Contribution to Drama Cup. She was also awarded the Andree Jannit Trophy in Year 10 for being the Best all round 4th former. Along with these she also participated in many school shows, her recent ones included Fame (2014), Footloose (2015) and Hairspray (2016) (in which she played the Matron and Gym Teacher). Sammie has also been acting since the age of 5, getting involved in various TV commercials and short films. She has also done Jazz Dancing at AWDA for 14 years and is now currently working towards the last grade in the JDNZ syllabus “Advanced Level 2.” One of Sammie’s biggest achievement’s however was being chosen as one of 24, through a rigorous and life changing process to be a part of SGCNZ Young Shakespeare Company, which traveled to London and performed on the Globe stage in July of 2017. Through this experience Sammie developed her love and knowledge of Shakespeare. She performed as part of a teacher directed group, who won best 15 min at the 2016 SGCNZ West Auckland Regional festival, which meant they then went down to Wellington to perform in the National SGCNZ UOSWSF against 48 other school from across NZ. From that Sammie was awarded the Patrick Smythe Best Connection with the Audience award, for her role as the ‘show host’ Nerissa, from the groups adapted ‘Merchant of Venice’ piece. She was then selected out of the 5,500 students that were involved in the Regional and National Festival that year to be one of 48 to be part of the SGCNZ National Shakespeares School Production in Dunedin of Sept/Oct 2016, in which they had 10 days to create and perform a 40 min play of Shakespeare. It was then from that group, that she was selected as one of the 24 to make up the SGCNZ Young Shakespeare Company that traveled to London. Sammie was fortunate enough to play one of the Juliet’s in the play of Romeo and Juliet when they performed on the Globe Stage, whilst having one of her inspirational drama teachers, Alison Nelson, look on from the crowd.
